Getting There: Since Widecombe is still a rather remote location, there are no regular bus services there. The best way to get there is by car on the B3387 from Bovey Tracy. Where to eat: The Rugglestone Inn A great place for lunch just outside the center of town, the Rugglestone was featured, along with The Old Inn, in Phillpotts’s Widecombe Fair. Friendly staff, wood-burning fireplaces and a wide selection of local ales ciders. The Old Inn Located in the center of town right on the square, it’s another great place for lunch or dinner after a day of hiking on the moor. Wayside Café A nice little café for afternoon tea, they have a variety of baked goods and of course the famous Devonshire Cream Tea as well as other traditional lunch items, moderately priced. What to Do: WALK!! There are trails and paths all over Dartmoor; all you need is a sturdy pair of hiking boots and a good map (and of course proper hiking attire—the weather up on the moor can be very shifty) and you’re on your way.
